Local singer Paul Ong vies for Top 25 Canadian Immigrants for 2024

The voting for the 16th annual Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards is now open. Musician, educator and philanthropist Paul Ong needs your support to make it to the list.
Paul was named as one of the top 75 finalists from hundreds of submissions throughout Canada and is one of five Winnipeggers on the list. He is is the only candidate in Winnipeg of Filipino heritage.
Paul serves as the vice principal at Meadows West School. Before becoming a school administrator, he began his teaching career in a northern region and worked as an inclusive education resource teacher in an inner-city junior high.  As a musician, Paul is the first Chinese-Filipino artist to perform a full concert with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. A community and youth advocate, Paul is a philanthropist who organizes the yearly “Concerts for a Cause,” which has generated approximately $150,000 for local charities since its start in 2015. Last year, Paul launched Yap-Ong Family Fund through the Winnipeg Foundation. Paul is also on the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s board of directors and is a member of Manitoba Opera’s Community Engagement committee.
In 2023, Paul made it to Ace Burpee’s Top 100 Most Fascinating Manitobans and is one of 10 CBC Manitoba Future 40 awardees. His April 2023 Concert for a Cause is among one of 12 top headline stories in the Winnipeg Free Press for 2023.    For the past 15 years, Canadian Immigrant magazine has recognized immigrants from many disciplines who have made major contributions to Canada.  The general public can now vote for up to three of their favorite finalists online until June 7, 2024. The prize winners will be announced both online at www.canadianimmigrant.ca and in the August issue of Canadian Immigrant magazine.
