Local Winnipeg bake shop Sugar Blooms and Cakes hailed winner in the third season of Food Network Canada’s “The Big Bake Holiday” taking home $10,000 grand prize.
Referred to as Team Jingle Bakes, Sugar Blooms co-owner Marie Mallari with teammates Geraldine Ong and Erika Rotor impressed the host judges during the Dec 4th episode.
The three bakers faced off with other competing teams and came up with the ube-macapuno Filipino themed cake within the alloted five hour period.
The larger-than-life baking competition series feature professional baking teams that design, bake and decorate a grand-scale cake creation based on a particular theme.
Sugar Blooms and Cakes is located in Mc Phillips St and was started by Marie’s mother Genevieve Melegrito in 2011.
Known for its bestsellers Ube Macapuno, Sans Rival and Ensaymada, Sugar Blooms and Cakes is the first ever cake bakeshop from Winnipeg featured on the Food Network.
