After two years, Canada’s largest and longest-running multicultural festival is back this summer!
Folklorama returns in 24 pavilions showcasing cultural displays, food and traditional performances representing different cultures around the world.
Now in its 51st season, Folklorama runs July 31 until Aug. 13 and will have a kick-off on July 23 at Assiniboine Park’s Lyric Theatre.
There are several pavillions that will not be seen this year, one of those will be the Philippine pride Pearl of the Orient Pavillion.
Artistic Director Goldie Garcia says they will be participating to help in promotions but unfortunately, the pavillion will not be up and the public will have to miss the performance of the renowned Magdaragat Philippines this year. “The two-year pandemic has affected group rehearsals but our members will come into full blast rehearsals this fall”, Goldie told 92.7 FM.
Magdaragat’s world-class performance has been a consistent crowd-pleaser in Folklorama for many years. Goldie says the pavillion and the dance troupe will be back next year.
Three of this year’s Folklorama Ambassadors were from the Pearl of the Orient Pavillion and will help in the promotion – Sarahdelle Galera, Adult Ambassador General, Sudan Parke and Nicolas Tamayo, Youth Ambassador General.
Created in 1976 by Dante Buenaventura, Magdaragat is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the Philippine culture through dance. The group has represented Folklorama and Canada at festivals in Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica and Chile.
