GoFundMe has paused and is reviewing the fundraiser for Canada’s truckers Freedom Convoy that has raised over $10 million to date. The fundraiser states money will go towards paying for the expenses of the truckers as they go to Ottawa to protest vaccine mandates. Description also says other funds will be given to “a credible Veterans organization which will be chosen by the donors.”
A warning that the fundraiser is “under review” has been posted and donation buttons and list of previous donors have been removed.
It’s the second time GoFundMe has suspended access to the money. It first happened mid January when the funds reached $4.5 million. During said time, GoFundMe stated they needed more detail on how funds would be allocated.
As of Tuesday, the fundraiser reached $9.5 million, declared the second largest fundraiser in Canada by Gofundme, next to Humboldt Broncos in 2018.
The protest has grown beyond a call to end the cross-border mandate to a clamor to end all vaccine mandates nationwide including mask wearing.
Thousands of demonstrators have joined the Freedom Convoy across Canada.
Police have also started investigations after incidents such as use of swastika flags and vandalism of memorials were reported.
