Winter Blues can be managed, expert says

As shorter days and colder weather start, psychologists are worried that people could be in for what an expert calls a long, dark winter.

University of Toronto professor Steve Joordens says anxiety has been the dominant mental health issue of the pandemic so far, as people worry about their health and job security.

He says there’s a danger of COVID anxiety turning into COVID depression over the winter which could have negative implications on the immune system.

Joordens suggests learning some relaxation techniques, sticking to a routine and taking time to exercise daily, even if it’s just a 20-minute walk outside.
