
Perla Javate, Chairman of the Philippine Heritage Council of Manitoba detailed the festivities leading to the celebration of Philipine Independence Day this year.
Philippine Independence Day is celebrated in the Philippines and in all parts of the world by Filipinos every June 12.
Just like the recent years in Manitoba, instead of one day, there will be week-long celebration that starts off with Flag Raising at the Winnipeg city hall and a reception with Mayor Brian Bowman on June 7.
An event called “Philippine Night” will take place in Daniel Mcyntire School, 6PM on June 8 to be presented by the Seven Oaks Filipino Employees Association (SOFEA).
Another flag raising ceremony takes place on June 9 at the Philppine Canadian Centre of Manitoba.
Other events include a tribute to grandparents, cultural Exchange: Filipino and Chinese Communities, celebration of faith, a formal ball and a community picnic at the park for newcomers on August 25.
