Romantic comedy series “Maria & the Mennos”, a locally written, directed and produced television sitcom will air its first episode January 3rd and can be watched from then on every Wednesday for one season on YESTV.
Canadian film maker and Manitoba-born Paul Plett’s Ode Productions produced the series with co-writers/producers/creators Tina Fehr-Kehler and Hazel Wallace. Executive producer is Orlando Braun.
Top billed by Filipino-Canadian Victoria Exconde as Maria, the story revolves around a Filipino girl who marries the love of her life Nate (who is a Mennonite) played by Kenton J Dyck. The couple moves in with Nate’s parents (played by Erna Peters and Chuck Fefchak) in Winkler so that they can save up some money to buy their own home.
After about a year and a half to produce -from inception to writing to filming, editing and musical scoring, the series will air on YESTV, a channel available on cable and online. Those wanting to stream the shows, can watch it at no cost but will just have to set-up an account at www.yestv.com/streaming.can
There will be 13-episodes which will also be available to watch on demand after airing. Episode one premieres at 10:30 PM EST for the Ontario broadcast, and 3:30 PM MST in Alberta.
Other local actors joining the cast in special appearances include Elmer Aquino, Joseph Sevillo and 92.7 FM CKJS’ Donna Natividad-Arenas.
