It is official! Ma-buhay! Musical, the all-Filipino play created by Filipino-Canadian theatre professional Joseph Sevillo will be shown on Rainbow Stage Summer 2024.
In celebration of its 70 years anniversary, Rainbow Stage announced today, Nov 7, 2023 that its 2024 summer show will include the Canadian premier of Ma-Buhay! along with the classic Mary Poppins.
Ma-Buhay! has been in development for over five years and is the first musical ever commissioned and developed by Rainbow Stage. The musical about a Filipino reality show is the first fully Filipino musical in Manitoba, with the book and lyrics written by Joseph himself that has trained and featured over a hundred local artists since its inception.
In his live guesting on 92.7 FM CKJS, Joseph said he hopes that he musical will open more opportunities on and off stage in the theatre sector and that fellow Pinoys will support the play.
After its staging on Winnipeg fringe Festival last summer, it is a dream come true for Joseph for Ma-buhay! to finally be shown in Rainbow Stage. He dreams that the play will be shown not only in other Canadian cities but in other parts of the world.
Ma-Buhay is anticipated to open on June 27 and will run until July 14 next summer.
