A new after-hours event is coming to the Assiniboine Park Zoo this June. “Locked Zoo – Finders Keepers” invites participants to explore the Zoo, working in small teams to crack codes and solve a series of puzzles in a race against the clock while learning how zoos keep the amazing animals in our care happy, healthy, and well-fed.
“If you like escape rooms, puzzles, trivia nights, board games, and a little friendly competition, Locked Zoo is for you,” said Laura Cabak, Director of Communications & Public Relations, Assiniboine Park Conservancy. “While the subject matter is serious, the competition is not. The only thing on the line is bragging rights and maybe a little personal pride. We want our guests to have fun and enjoy the Zoo in a whole new way!”
The Locked Zoo concept was developed by Jetpack Creative Industries, a Calgary-based creative studio, who partnered with the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo to pilot new games and make them available to other zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The games offer self-guided play with minimal waste and give zoos a unique opportunity to engage audiences in a fun way around different themes that highlight the role of modern zoos and the importance of wildlife conservation.
This is the first time Assiniboine Park Zoo will be hosting Locked Zoo events, which will be held on Thursday, June 13 and Friday, June 14 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $45 + GST per person and can be purchased in advance online or in person at the Zoo entrance (2595 Roblin Boulevard) during regular hours of operation (open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
While this year’s events are for adults-only, they will explore the possibility of offering a family-friendly version of Locked Zoo in the future.
