Manitoba Filipino community celebrates National Language through literature and music featuring Musica Singers of the Philippine Canadian Centre of Manitoba (PCCM) and students of Filipino Heritage Class.
Everyone is invited to an event called “Tula, Balagtasan at Kundiman” in celebration of the month of August as Philippine National Language Month.
Event will be held at the PCCM this Saturday, August 19 from 11 am to 5 pm. Event is free for all.
There will also be food vendors and trade exhibitors.
August is ‘Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa,’ or National Language Month in the Philippines according to Proclamation No. 1041 that was signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos on July 15, 1997.
The anniversary falls on the birthday of the late former Philppines President Manuel L. Quezon, recognized as the ‘Father of the Philippine National Language.
Quezon was born on August 19, 1878.
