It is official. April 13 is Turban Day in Manitoba.
Burrows MLA Diljeet Brar authored a private member’s bill that led to April 13 now being recognized across Manitoba as Turban Day.
Brar introduced the bill in March 2022 and it received the royal assent on June 1.
April is recognized as Sikh Heritage Month in Manitoba. Thanks to the passing of a bill by NDP Leader Wab Kinew in 2019.
To mark the inaugural Manitoba’s Turban Day, there will be an event at the Manitoba Legislative building from noon until 1 p.m. today where speeches, cultural performance and an art display of Sikh and Punjabi heritage and a turban-tying stall willl also be featured.
