After only a few days, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s free Community Celebration concert is at capacity. Although the Culture Days event is free of charge and rush seating, patrons were required to reserve their tickets. Late this afternoon the decision to stop giving away tickets was made after capacity was reached.
Saturday night’s concert will bring together some of the extraordinary talent that exists right in our own backyard. Music director Daniel Raiskin leads the orchestra.
“Celebrating music with our community is one of the most rewarding projects the WSO puts on annually,” says Raiskin. “Before we learn to walk we start dancing. Before we learn how to speak, we start singing. Music is a celebration of our life and joy! It’s a gift and a treasure.”
Featured artists include Winnipeg soprano Chelsea Kutyn, the winner of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra Community Concert Performance Award at the Winnipeg Music Festival this past April, and Anica Warkentine, a Winnipeg-born pianist and the winner of the Aikin’s Memorial Trophy at this year’s Winnipeg Music Festival.
Patrons are being asked to call the Box Office at 204-949-3999 and return any reserved tickets they think might not get used, so that others may attend.
