After two years hiatus due to pandemic , the Winnipeg Pride Parade returned on the street.
Thousands gathered to join and watch the parade which started in front of the Manitoba legislature before marching though Portage Avenue and gathered at the Forks.
Estimated 50,000 people took part in the two-day festivities June 4 and 5, 2022. Crowds enjoyed specialized programming celebrating traditional Indigenous ceremonies, dance and culture at the Forks following the parade.
According to Pride Winnipeg president Barry Karlenzig, 118 groups had signed up to walk in the parade.
Every year, during the month of June, Pride Month is acknowledged in Canada and across the globe. Various events are held to celebrate the diversity, achievements and influence of the LGBTQ+ community. This is also time to raise awareness about the issues they are facing.
