It’s elections time in Winnipeg!
The campaign period for Winnipeggers running for mayor officialy starts this Sunday.
The municipal election takes place Oct. 26. Aside from mayor, eligible voters will also vote for councillors and school trustees.
Current Mayor Brian Bowman said he is not running for re-election.
Three candidates started their campaigns namely Jenny Motkaluk, a business consultant who also ran in the last municipal election in 2018 coming second to Bowman; Don Woodstock, a businessman in the security industry who ran for mayor in the previous election; and Chris Clacio, who also ran in the last election but didn’t make it to the ballot.
Councilors. John Orlikow and Scott Gillingham and social entrepreneur Shaun Loney also made declaration that they will run for mayor.
The deadline to register as a mayoral candidate is the afternoon of Sept. 20 and should register in person with the senior election official in the city clerk’s department.
Eligible candidates must be Canadian citizens and Manitoba residents who are 18 or older as of election day and aren’t legally disqualified from running.
