For many Canadians, mittens are a way to support the Canadian athletes and to show national pride.
As Team Canada partners with Lululemon in the ongoing 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, some are not happy with the price tag of the mitts.
The quilted polyester mitten made by Lululemon are sold at $68 a pair.
The Vancouver-based athletic company replaced Hudson’s Bay Company as official outfitter of the Canadian athletes.
In recent years, a pair of Games souvenir red mittens would normally cost around $10 to $20.
A Lululemon company spokesperson released a statement saying “Our products are developed with cutting-edge fabrics and innovative design techniques that deliver unparalleled feel, fit, and performance.
The company says it values guests’ feedback and are taking all learnings from their first Games experience of partnership to impact how they activate in future Games.
As of today, there is no word yet whether the price will change.
Lululemon will handle Team Canada’s Olympic outfit beginning with this year’s Winter Olympics and will continue until the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
The mitts and a selection of other games merchs are now available online and in Lululemon stores across Canada, including the Future Legacy Bag, with 10 percent of sales from each bag to support the Canadian Olympic Foundation and Paralympic Foundation of Canada.
