SPORTS: Yordenis Ugas beats Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao by unanimous decision

Filipino boxing legend  Manny Pacquiao thanked and apologized to his supporters around the world after failing to wrest back the World Boxing Association super welterweight belt from Cuban Yordenis Ugas.   Ugás beat 42-year old Pacquiao in a  unanimous decision on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

I’m sorry I lost tonight. But you know, I did my best. I apologize,” he said after the fight.

The  35-yer old  Ugas was a late injury replacement fighter for American Errol Spence Jr.  He has now won four straight fights and improved his record to 27 wins and four losses.

“I told you I am the champion of the WBA and I proved it tonight,” Ugas said after the biggest upset win in his career.

Eight-division world champion  Pacquiao, who is also a Philippine senator is yet to finalize what his next boxing move will be.  Many of his fans realize that Pacquiao’s   26-year professional boxing career might have ended Saturday night with a disheartening loss.

Supporters around the world,  including  Filipino fans,  cheered for Pacquiao for bringing pride and honour to the country for many years despite losing n the recent fight.

Considered a boxing icon,  public support to the fighting Senator’s boxing career has always been unwavering.

Pacquiao has been rumored to having a  plan to run for President in the 2022 elections but is yet to confirm.
