Bundle up for the 2019 Santa Claus Parade this weekend! The family-friendly evening of fun and entertainment will be this Saturday, Nov 16.
Parade starts on Portage Avenue at Young Street at 5:00 PM. Organizers say there will be approximately 50-60 min from the first float to the last float – Santa!
Santa reaches The Forks Market parking lot at approximately 6:45 PM and the new float will stay there for public viewing until 9:00 PM.
A larger crowd compared to other years is expected because of warmer weather with forecast high of plus 5 and low of minus 3 this Satuday with periods of rain.
This year’s parade grand marshal will be Gloria Cardwell Hoeppner, former executive director of West End BIZ.
Road closures for the parade begin at 1:30 p.m. The annual holiday tradition officially welcome Christmas season in the city following remembrance day long weekend.
Bahay Kubo Philippines Float
Themed as traditional national house of the Philippines , the Manitoba Filipino Street Festival’s (MFSF) “Bahay Kubo” will be one of the 60 floats that will definitely catch everyone’s attention this year. The MFSF float will be done in coordination with the Quezon Province Association of Manitoba and Pinoy Alliance of Canada and will also feature Zumba presentation.
This is the second year a float featuring Filipino ingenuity and creativity will join the parade. Last year, The Parol Float showcased traditional Filipino lanterns that symbolize essence of true Pinoy Christmas. The Paskong Pinoy float featured colourful capiz Parols made in the Philippines and included creative entries in the ongoing Parol-making Contest.
Pre parade Block Party with CKJS 810, Hot 100.5 and Energy 106 @ Portage and Main
As in previous years, a pre parade party will be hosted by Evanov’s team of radio stations. The fun starts at 4 PM with free pizza from Slice’s Pizza, tea from DAVIDsTEA, bath bomb samples from The Bomb Bar and check out an amazing Christmas dance performance by Exhale Dance Studio.
DJ Anto from the Five O’clock ENERGY Mix will also be there spinning hot tunes to keep the audience warm.
