Philippines: Trick or treat: Boy puts on electric and water bills as costume

MANILA – A child’s Halloween costume caught the attention of netizens as he had on something considered by many as their worst nightmare: “Judith” or a pun for the monthly “due date” of utility bills.

A Facebook post by Nexil Palabrica showed a photo of a boy with electricity and water bills attached to the back of his shirt.

“Grabe ung costume nung batang to, nakakatakot talaga,” (Gosh, this costume is scary) captioned Palabrica.

The post has so far gained over 48,000 reactions and more than 58,000 shares since it was first uploaded October 26, 2019.

Early this month, Meralco announced that electricity rates would be slightly higher due to a spike in transmission costs

The looming water crisis in Metro Manila is also a source of fear and worry for millions of Filipinos. In March of this year, over a million households in Metro Manila suffered from a water crisis brought about by the declining water level in Angat Dam, lack of rains due to El NiƱo, and higher demand.
