Kidney Walk this weekend draws hundreds

Hundreds joined this year’s   Manitoba Branch  Kidney Foundation Fundraiser held at St Vital Park today, Sept 8, 2019. Prior to the walk, there was acknowledgement of event sponosrs led by Vickar Automotive Group, presentation of top fundraisers and kidney donor heroes and a Zumba warm up.

The nationawide Kidney Walk hopes to raise awareness about kidney disease and bring in funds for support.    The money goes toward donor promotion, education and supporting those living with kidney disease in the province.

According to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, kidney disease is on the rise in Manitoba, while donations remain stagnant.   The wait for a kidney is typically 5.5 to seven years in Manitoba – either for a living or deceased donor.

Leading the weekend walk were Manitobans who fundraised   $1000 as follows  Donovan DeBattista,  David Urquhart, Dina D’Ottavio, Marlene Prosser and Geri Lowe among others.

Cheers to all donors,   organizers, sponsors and those who joined hands to make this event a success. Thank you to all our CKJS listeners who supported the cause.

One of those present in the event was Cheryl Simeons who got a kidney donation
