Evanov Radio Group’s nine-hour radiothon yielded tons of food items and canned goods to support the work of Winnipeg Harvest.
“Hope for the Holidays” was held and live streamed on Dec 9, 2017 at Grant Park Shopping Centre which was a joint fundraising effort of Energy 106, Hot 100.5 and CKJS 810AM which includes Radio Dhamaal.
Hundreds came down to share canned goods and other food items, donated cash (or cheque) with executive director Kate Brenner and other volunteer friends from Winnipeg Harvest personally accepting donations. Several business owners also made pledges to donate in cash and/or kind.
Kate said items and money donations are very crucial especially in this season to help feed thousands of needy families in the list who rely on food banks for support.
Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman and Chief of Police Danny Smyth were the very first supporters who came down to extend the long table of generosity this holiday season.
Laurel Cetkovski of Winnipeg Harvest said the one day event raised about $5,671.30 and collected a total of 1386 pounds of food. Excluded in the count are the actual donations from sponsors and other supporters which are still to be counted, weighed and updated.
Every year, it has been a tradition of the three stations of Evanov Radio Group to team up and work together to choose a charity and raise funds for their cause as a way to observe the celebrate the spirit of giving and sharing.
This year, our team worked with Winnipeg Harvest with the aim to help contribute to fight hunger and feed hope in Manitoba.
This event was made possible thru the support of Winnipeg Kia and Grant park Shopping Centre. Thank you also David’s Tea, Tim Hortons and Red River Coop and EQ3 for providing our lovely comfy couch for our live broadcast which we raffled out during the day.
To everyone who came and supported HOPE FOR THE HOLIDAYS— maraming salamat po. Your donation makes a big difference!
