Today, May 12th, marks Manitoba’s birthday. It was on May 12, 1870 that the Manitoba Act received royal assent from Parliament, making Manitoba the fifth Canadian province to join confederation.
Celebrations big and small are scheduled throughout the day, such as a Scavenger Hunt at the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada, travelling exhibit at the New Iceland Heritage Museum in Gimli, free cake at Travel Manitoba’s Visitor Information Centre at The Forks, and others.
Festivities will continue Saturday with Manitoba Museum’s annual Manitoba Day event at 11 a.m. with free admission to the museum galleries, science gallery and planetarium and special educational programming throughout the day.
Happy birthday, Manitoba!
