Mamma Mia!  and  ABBA fans, eat your heart out as  the critically acclaimed musical Mamma Mia!  enjoyed by  millions  of  people worldwide on  film and on stage  comes  to Winnipeg.

Rainbow  Stage production of   Mamma Mia!  stars Filipino-Canadian  theatre actress  Ma Anne Dionisio who  has   appeared in Miss Saigon  production  in   Australia and the UK,   “Eponine” in the International and US touring productions of Les Miserables, “Bertrande” in London’s West End production of Martin Guerre, and “Maria” in Stratford Festival’s West Side Story.

Even before  she  earned international  recognition and  respect,  Ma-Anne  was a household name in the Winnipeg  Filipino  community after she won the CKJS’  Tuklas talino singing search in 1991.  Back then, she was a newly arrived teenager from Manila.

Years later, doors of opportunities opened  as she starred  non-stop  in lead roles and  appeared  in covers of several  national and  international magazines.

In the early 2000, after her spot at the  Experience Canada (a musical tour that celebrated Canada’s 125th anniversary), Ma Anne  auditioned in the Canadian production of Miss Saigon in Toronto in 1993.

She  got the lead role  of Kim which brought  her to an  instant celebrated success   earning nominations for the  Dora  Mayor  Moore Award   for Best Actress in a Musical in 1994 and in 2011.     She  has since performed as Kim in British, Australian and American productions of Miss Saigon.

Ma Anne  played the role of Eponine in the U.S. Touring company of Les Miserables  joining   Lea Salonga as the second Asian to play this role in western theatre.

Ma Anne also earned so much admiration as she played  Grizabella in the all-Canadian revival of Cats. She  was also  part of the ensemble for Closer Than Ever.

In 2009, Ma  anne , along with other artists  founded Theatre 20, a musical theatre company in Toronto and performed concert series at the Panasonic Theatre.

Ma Anne,  who still speaks fluent Filipino, has also landed in several films and shows and  made some recordings  and guest appearances on television worldwide.

This August, Ma ann will return to her roots in Winnipeg  via Rainbow Stage’s production of   Mamma Mia!

ABBA’s greatest hits tell the hilarious story of a Mother, a Daughter and Three Possible Dads.  The story-telling magic of the group’s   timeless songs propels  this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship, creating an unforgettable show.
