COVID-19 Pandemic: What’s Closed, Cancelled, and Postponed

Government Services

  • City of Winnipeg recreation facilities including pools and libraries are closed as of March 16, 2020.
  • Leisure Guide registration for Spring/Summer courses has been postponed as of March 16, 2020.
  • Leisure Guide programming has been cancelled as of March 16, 2020.
  • MPI has cancelled all road tests as of March 13, 2020.
  • MPI has cancelled all knowledge and vision tests, as well as Enhanced ID interviews as of March 16, 2020.
  • Parks Canada is suspending all visitor services as of March 18, 2020. 

Education & Child Care

  • Manitoba public schools will suspend classes for three weeks as of March 23, 2020.
  • Operations at licensed child care centres will be suspended as of the end of the day on March 20, 2020
  • The University of Manitoba has suspended all in-person classes as of March 18, 2020. Classes will be offered using alternative delivery methods (including online) for the remainder of the semester.
  • The University of Winnipeg has suspended all in-person classes for the rest of the term as of March 13, 2020. Individual classes will be notified by March 20, 2020 of how final grades will be determined.
  • Red River College has suspended in-person classes for the rest of the Winter term. All courses will be delivered through alternative means, including online. 

Retail

  • CF Polo Park is operating on reduced hours. The mall will be open from 11 AM – 7 PM Monday to Friday, 11 AM – 6 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Check with individual stores for hours, as some are closed entirely. 
  • St Vital Centre is open regular hours. Some retailers are open on reduced hours, or closed entirely. For an up-to-date list, click here
  • Outlet Collection Winnipeg is operating on reduced hours. The mall will be open from 11 AM – 7 PM Monday – Saturday, and 11 AM – 5 PM on Sundays. Check with individual stores for hours, as some are closed entirely. 
  • Kildonan Place is operating on reduced hours. The mall will be open from 11 AM – 7 PM Monday to Friday, 10 AM – 6 PM on Saturdays, and 11 AM – 5 PM on Sundays. Check with individual stores for hours, as some are closed entirely. 
  • Grant Park Shopping Centre is operating on reduced hours. The mall will be open from 11 AM – 7 PM Monday to Friday, 10 AM – 6 PM on Saturdays, and 11 AM – 5 PM on Sundays. Check with individual stores for hours, as some are closed entirely. 
  • Garden City Shopping Centre is open regular hours. Some retailers are open on reduced hours, or closed entirely. Contact retailers directly to find out their hours.
  • Portage Place Shopping Centre is open regular hours. 
  • The Forks is closed until further notice.
  • Tokyo Smoke and Tweed stores are closed until further notice.
  • IKEA stores are closed until further notice, store is offering click and collect only.
  • Real Canadian Superstore locations in Winnipeg are operating on reduced hours. They will be open from 8 AM – 8 PM, Monday-Saturday and from 9 AM – 6 PM on Sundays.
  • Sobeys and Safeway Stores will be operating on reduced hours. They will be open from 8AM – 8 PM, Monday – Saturday, and 9 AM – 6 PM on Sundays. 
  • Save-On-Foods Stores will be operating on reduced hours. They will be open from 8AM – 8 PM, Monday – Saturday, and 9 AM – 6 PM on Sundays. 

Entertainment/Concerts

  • Landmark Cinemas has closed all their movie theatres across the country
  • Cineplex has closed all their locations across the country, including The Rec Room. 
  • The Royal Winnipeg Ballet has cancelled their ‘Manitoba On The Edge’ and ‘United States OZ’ tours, as well as their 80th Anniversary Ballet Ball.
  • The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra has cancelled all their performances until March 31, 2020.
  • The Manitoba Opera has cancelled their performances of ‘Carmen’ on march 28, 31, and April 3, 2020. 
  • The Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre has cancelled all remaining performances of ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ through April 11, 2020. 
  • The Assiniboine Park Zoo remains open. 
  • The Winnipeg Art Gallery is Closed until further notice
  • The annual Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba Teddy Bears’ Picnic has been cancelled.
  • The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba Book Market, planned for April 23-25 at St. Vital Shopping Centre has been cancelled.
  • The Manitoba Museum is closed until further notice.
  • The Manitoba Children’s Museum is closed until further notice.
  • The Canadian Museum of Human Rights is closed until further notice.
  • Celine Dion’s concert on April 27, 2020 at Bell MTS Place has been postponed.
  • The Weeknd’s concert on June 17, 2020 at Bell MTS Place will still be held.
  • ‘90s Nostalgia – Electric Circus Edition on June 18, 2020 at Bell MTS Place has been re-scheduled to September 10, 2020.
  • Baby Shark Live on June 20, 2020 at Bell MTS Place has been postponed. 

Gyms

  • Goodlife & Fit4Less gyms are closed until further notice.
  • 9Round Kickbox Fitness locations are closed until further notice.
  • Shapes Fitness Centres remain open.
  • Brickhouse Gym is open for members only (no walk-ins or new sign-ups permitted) until further notice.

Restaurants

  • SkipTheDishes is now offering ‘contactless delivery.’
  • DoorDash is now offering ‘contactless delivery.’
  • Tim Hortons has removed in-store seating, only offering to-go and drive-through orders. 
  • Starbucks has removed in-store seating, only offering to-go and drive through orders. 
  • McDonald’s is blocking access to in-store seating, only offering to-go and drive through orders.
  • Cafe 22 is operating for pick-up and delivery only.
  • The Keg Steakhouse + Bar is closed as of March 17, 2020.
  • McDonald’s is blocking access to in-store seating, only offering to-go, drive through, or delivery. 

Bars & Nightclubs

  • The Palomino Club will be closed until at least March 30, 2020. 
  • 441 Main will be closed until further notice
  • Club 200 is closed until further notice.
  • Fame Nightclub will be closed until further notice. 
  • OV Club is closed until further notice.
  • Bar Italia is closed until further notice
  • The King’s Head Pub is closed until at least April 2. 
  • La Roca is closed until further notice

Sports

  • The NHL (Winnipeg Jets) has suspended play until further notice.
  • The AHL (Manitoba Moose) has suspended play until further notice.
  • The Western Hockey League (Winnipeg Ice) has suspended play until further notice.
  • The Canadian Premier League (Valour FC) has suspended pre-season training until further notice.
  • Hockey Manitoba has suspended all games and programs until further notice.
  • The Manitoba junior Hockey League has cancelled the 2020 playoffs.
  • The Manitoba Major Soccer League has cancelled their games until further notice
  • Manitoba ringette has postponed it’s provincial tournaments.
  • Cheer Manitoba has cancelled all upcoming events.
  • The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo are being postponed. The new date has not been finalized, but they will occur before Summer 2021.
