COVID-19 Pandemic: What’s Closed, Cancelled, and Postponed

Government Services

  • Certain City of Winnipeg libraries will re-open for holds pick-up service only. For more info, click here. 
  • Leisure Guide registration for Spring/Summer courses has been postponed as of March 16, 2020.
  • Leisure Guide programming has been cancelled as of March 16, 2020.
  • MPI is resuming some road testing. For more info, click here. 
  • Parks Canada locations are reopening certain parks for day use areas. For more info, click here. 
  • Winnipeg Transit is operating on an ‘Enhanced Saturday’ schedule on weekdays. 
  • The City of Winnipeg has expanded bike and active transit routes to include sections of Lyndale Drive, Scotia Street, Wellington Crescent, Wolseley Ave, Assiniboine Avenue, Churchill Drive, Egerton Road, Kildonan Drive, and Kilkenny Drive.

Education & Child Care

  • Manitoba public schools have suspended classes indefinitely. Limited access to classrooms will be allowed from June 1, 2020. Contact your school for more info. 
  • The University of Manitoba has suspended all in-person classes as of March 18, 2020. Classes will be offered using alternative delivery methods (including online) for the remainder of the semester.
  • The University of Winnipeg has suspended all in-person classes for the rest of the term as of March 13, 2020. 
  • Red River College has suspended in-person classes for the rest of the Winter term. All courses will be delivered through alternative means, including online. 

Retail

  • CF Polo Park is operating with reduced shopping hours. The mall is open from 11 AM – 7 PM Monday – Saturday, and from 11 AM – 6 PM on Sundays. Individual store hours may vary. For an up-to-date list, click here.  
  • St. Vital Centre is operating with reduced shopping hours. The mall is open from 11 AM – 7 PM Monday – Saturday, and from 11 AM – 6 PM on Sundays. Individual store hours may vary.  For an up-to-date list, click here. Only entrance one (near London Drugs), and entrance four (near Dynacare) are open.
  • Outlet Collection Winnipeg is operating with reduced shopping hours. The mall is open from 11 AM – 7 PM Monday – Saturday, and from 11 AM – 6 PM on Sundays. Individual store hours may vary.  For an up-to-date list, click here. 
  • Kildonan Place is operating with reduced shopping hours. The mall is open from 12 PM – 7 PM Monday – Saturday, and from 12 PM – 6 PM on Sundays. Individual store hours may vary.  For an up-to-date list, click here. 
  • Grant Park Shopping Centre  is operating with reduced shopping hours. The mall is open from 12 PM – 7 PM Monday – Friday, from 12 PM – 6 PM on Saturdays, and from 12 PM – 6 PM on Sundays. Individual store hours may vary.  For an up-to-date list, click here. 
  • Garden City Shopping Centre is open from 9:30 AM – 9 PM Monday – Friday, from 9:30 PM – 6 PM on Saturdays, and from 11 Am – 6 PM on Sundays.Individual store hours may vary.  For an up-to-date list, click here. 
  • Portage Place Shopping Centre is open 10 AM – 6 PM Monday – Saturday, Individual store hours may vary. Shoppers will only be allowed to enter the mall through the Portage Ave. at Edmonton St. entrance. 
  • The Forks is open, however individual tenants may still be closed or operate on reduced hours. 
  • IKEA is open on reduced hours. The store is open from 10 AM – 8 PM from Monday – Friday, from 10 AM – 6 PM on Saturdays, and from 10 AM – 5 PM on Sundays. 
  • Real Canadian Superstore locations in Winnipeg are operating on reduced hours. They will be open from 8 AM – 10 PM, Monday-Saturday and from 9 AM – 6 PM on Sundays.
  • Sobeys and Safeway stores will be operating on reduced hours. They will be open from 8AM – 8 PM or 10 PM (depending on the store), Monday – Saturday, and 9 AM – 6 PM on Sundays. 
  • Save-On-Foods Stores will be operating on reduced hours. They will be open from 8AM – 8 PM or 10 PM (depending on location), Monday – Saturday, and 9 AM – 6 PM on Sundays. 
  • Walmart stores are operating on reduced hours. They will be open from 8 AM – 9 PM Monday – Saturday, and from 9 AM – 6 PM on Sundays. 
  • RONA and Lowe’s stores are operating on reduced hours. They will be open from 7 AM – 9 PM Monday – Friday, from 7 AM – 9 PM on Saturdays, and from 9 AM – 6 PM on Sundays. 
  • The Home Depot stores are operating on reduced hours. They will be open from 7 AM – 9 PM Monday – Friday, from 7 AM – 9 PM on Saturdays, and from 9 AM – 6 PM on Sundays. 

Entertainment/Concerts

  • Landmark Cinemas has closed all their movie theatres across the country until further notice.
  • Cineplex has closed all their locations across the country, including The Rec Room until further notice. 
  • The Royal Winnipeg Ballet has cancelled their ‘Manitoba On The Edge’ and ‘United States OZ’ tours, as well as their 80th Anniversary Ballet Ball.
  • The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra has cancelled all their performances until March 31, 2020.
  • The Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre has cancelled all remaining performances of ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ through April 11, 2020. 
  • The Assiniboine Park Zoo is closed until further notice.
  • The Winnipeg Art Gallery is open from 11 AM – 5 PM as of May 7, 2020.
  • The annual Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba Teddy Bears’ Picnic has been cancelled.
  • The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba Book Market, planned for April 23-25 at St. Vital Shopping Centre has been cancelled.
  • The Manitoba Museum is closed until further notice.
  • The Manitoba Children’s Museum is closed until further notice.
  • The Canadian Museum of Human Rights is closed until further notice.
  • Celine Dion’s concert on April 27, 2020 at Bell MTS Place has been postponed.
  • The Weeknd’s concert on June 17, 2020 at Bell MTS Place will still be held.
  • ‘90s Nostalgia – Electric Circus Edition originally scheduled for June 18, 2020 has been rescheduled for September 10, 2020. 
  • Baby Shark Live on June 20, 2020 at Bell MTS Place has been postponed. 
  • Super-Spike 2020 has been cancelled.
  • The 2020 Winnipeg Folk Festival has been cancelled.
  • Summer of Sound 2020 has been postponed until June 30, 2021. Tickets for the 2020 festival will be honoured at one of the 2021, 2022, or 2023 dates. For more info, click here.
  • The Manitou Ahbee Festival has been postponed until August 27-30, 2020.
  • The 2020 Red River Exhibition has been cancelled. 
  • GameFest Winnipeg 2020 has been cancelled. 
  • Pride Winnipeg is moving their 2020 celebration online. Canada Pride, which was supposed to take place in Winnipeg in 2020 will be held in 2022 instead. Planning for a 2021 festival remains on-track. 

Gyms

  • Goodlife & Fit4Less gyms have began to reopen. Please contact individual clubs to find out more. 
  • 9Round Kickbox Fitness locations are closed until further notice.
  • Shapes Fitness Centres will begin a staggered reopening of certain locations as of June 2, 2020. 
  • Brickhouse Gym has reopened. 

Restaurants

  • SkipTheDishes is now offering ‘contactless delivery.’
  • DoorDash is now offering ‘contactless delivery.’
  • Tim Hortons has removed in-store seating, only offering to-go and drive-through orders. 
  • Starbucks is now only open for drive-through customers and are operating on reduced hours at select locations only.
  • McDonald’s is now only offering to-go and drive through orders.

Bars & Nightclubs

  • The Palomino Club will be closed until further notice
  • 441 Main is permanently closed.
  • Club 200 has re-opened. 
  • Fame Nightclub will re-open as of June 5, 2020. 
  • OV Club is closed until further notice.
  • The King’s Head Pub has reopened. 

Sports

  • The NHL (Winnipeg Jets) has suspended play until further notice.
  • The AHL (Manitoba Moose) has suspended play until further notice.
  • The Western Hockey League (Winnipeg Ice) has cancelled the remainder of their season
  • The Canadian Premier League (Valour FC) has suspended pre-season training until further notice.
  • The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball (Winnipeg Goldeyes) has postponed the start of the 2020 season. The league hopes to begin play in an 80-game season in early July. 
  • The CFL says that the 2020 season will not begin until at least July 2020. 
  • Hockey Manitoba has suspended all games and programs until further notice.
  • The Manitoba Junior Hockey League has cancelled the 2020 playoffs.
  • The Manitoba Major Soccer League has cancelled their games until further notice
  • Manitoba Ringette has postponed it’s provincial tournaments.
  • Cheer Manitoba has cancelled all upcoming events.
