Her next stage is the galaxy.
After being a star in the Shining Star Fashion show where she walked down the ramp with other aspiring models in Manitoba, 12-year old Katrina Czarina Salazar ‘s next stop is galaxy. She will represent Winnipeg in the Junior Category of the Canada Galaxy pageant on April 27, 2019 in Mississauga, Ontario.
Fondly called KC, she began capturing the hearts of many when she joined the Manitoba Filipino Street Festival Queen Bulilit in 2016 where she placed second.
She impressed the judges and hailed Best in Talent at the 2017 Shining Star with her rendition of “Shape of you” as she sang and played cajon instrument while doing machine gun taekwondo and sikaran kick while dancing.
Dream to become model and beauty queen
KC has always been fascinated with Filipina beauty queens like Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray. She has started her catwalk and hip twisting and poses in front of the mirror as early as she was six.
“Even when I was younger I would wrap the blanket on me as my dress and put on my high heels or boots and walked around in my room to pretend as a beauty queen. I always love to watch beauty contests and modelling.”
Sally, KC’s mother who has been very supportive of her daughter’s passion, told CKJS that at the age of two, KC would put a bucket of ice cream on her head to pretend it was her crown. KC’s fashion designer uncle in the Philippines– Eric Feliciano, also has a big influence in her. Eric, who also trains local beauty queens, has been helpful in designing and sewing all the gowns KC will use in the contest.
Sally and husband Kenneth are loving parents to KC and her brother AJ who always remind them not to forget where they came from and to be proud of their Filipino heritage. Born in the Philipines, KC and her family immigrated to Canada in 2015. She still speaks Filipino language fluently as it is their medium used for conversation at home.
KC : The Achiever
While she loves to become a model and a beauty queen, KC also aspires to become a lawyer someday.

She graduated Grade 6 with honours and received citations such as Leadership Award from MLA of Logan in 2018 and as Outstanding Grade 6 Student. She also trained with the Winnipeg Sikaran Arnis Academy and has also won several medals in martial arts.
KC sings, dances and act on stage. In her spare time, she loves to do video editing, photography, drawing and arts. She also loves to volunteer and actively helps out in her previous school’s Filipino Club.
With all her achievements so far, she believes in staying humble, being prayerful and in dreaming big.
“Always follow and pursue your dreams. Life is trial and errors. Keep trying. After a lot of trials, move on to another dream. God is showing us what we are destined for. Always stay as children of God. “
