COMMUNITY: Pasasalamat: Gratitude Gala celebrates Spirit of Volunteerism

 

An evening to honor Filipino-Canadian Winnipegers  who shared  time,  talent and  sleepless nights  towards a worthwhile cause was held January 27th, 2018  at the Hilton Winnipeg Airport Suites.   The dinner event featured  a 3-course meal designed by Celebrity Chef  Jeremy Senaris  for VIP ticket holders.

Pasasalamat: A Gratitude Gala recognizes  the  volunteer efforts  of  members of  Filipino  community  who work behind the scenes to provide  unselfish  support  and/or contribution in  various areas that included  sports, art,  heritage, immigration among others. 

Lead organizer Judianne Jayme, with  team  Culture Card, said it is a way to celebrate the volunteers’  significance. 

“We want these community leaders to continue what they do and to  let them  know that they are appreciated.”

 

 

One of  those given recognition was Aida Champagne- a Lifetime Achievement Award for her  dedication towards promotion of  Filipino culture.

Aida is the co-chair of  Manitoba Filipino Street Festival  (MFSF).   The whole  MFSF  team  also  gets recognition under the  Community Celebrations and Gatherings category.

 

 

Another awardee is  Leila Castro, who was given  Newcomer Volunteer Recognition for her  initiative  to  mobilize  fellow volunteers to be involved and vigilant in helping protect  neighborhood.

Leila is the brain behind  204 Neighbourhood Watch, a  street team involved in clean-up efforts,  patrolling and crime watch.

Arts &  Entertainment – Magdaragat Philippines Inc.

Language & Heritage – Ernesto N. Ofiaza Jr.

Sports & Fitness – Winnipeg Sikaran Arnis Academy

Immigration & Settlement – #PinoyCanada | Forum

Youth Volunteer Award – Hazel Anne Papelleras

 

 

 

 

Your hard work does not go unnoticed.  Thank you all for your tireless dedication to uplifting, growing and sharing our community, cultures and traditions.”,   Judianne said of all the nominees.

 

The  hard task of  deciding on  the winners from the long list of nominees  based on their profiles  was taken cared of  by the judges that included  MLA  Nic Curry,  Alfie Vera Mella. Sachit Mehra  and Lilian Tankard.

 

Event’s stage hosts were the contestants of the youth public speaking contest Dalagita  from 2017 and 2018.

 

Maria Aragon, Faith Arintok, Sheryllynn Padua, Ron Nazario, and Jerick Reyes provided entertainment.

 

Just in Couture took charge of  decors,  program coordination and DJ services by MYXZ Images while Henry Balanial and Arnel San Jose  took care of photography.
