Winnipeg resident and blogger Cristina Evangelista- Licup, author of www.momsiecle.com opened doors for newcomers in Winnipeg to avail of a special box of goodies that was initially being distributed to newcomers in Ontario–the Welcome Pack. It is a box filled with variety of household items from some of Canada’s leading brands put together by partner companies from our neighboring Ontario province as a welcome treat for newly-landed immigrants.
Out of her desire to spread cheer, Cristina (known to her online friends and fellow bloggers as Momsie), volunteered to coordinate registration and distribution of said boxes in Winnipeg thru her blog, with support of her volunteer friends.
“I started my blog to share my journey in Canada as an immigrant. Later on, people from different countries started to email me and wrote comments about my posts. Until I learned about WelcomePack and wrote about it in one of my posts.”
Through her initiative, Welcome Packs are now being distributed among valid newcomers in Winnipeg. And since it started in March 2016, thousands of boxes were handed out to happy newcomers.
“The box gives more than freebies. It gives a message that there are people and community that they can go to for help as they with adjust in their new home.”
To receive the box, Cristina said new immigrants must be at least 18 yrs old and should be able to provide a document to prove they arrive in Canada as permanent resident on or after January 1, 2014. WelcomePack Canada Inc has its own website however, link to Winnipeg registrants can be found in Cristina’s site: http://www.momsiecle.com/
Momsie, a mother of three, started chronicling her life when she came to Winnipeg in 2009. She also volunteers as online settlement worker for English Online, Inc.
